- Stable ID
- DOT_NUMBER is the organization identity; active docket prefix and number pairs identify authority records.
Limitations
- Not real-time; records can lag source systems.
- FMCSA states that the L&I system is authoritative for operating-authority registration.
- Only three docket fields are exposed per census record.
- A business or mailing address is not necessarily a customer-facing office or service location.
- CARSHIP classification does not prove LTL, truckload, reefer or other commercial services.
- The public snapshot is a deterministic nationally balanced subset of eligible freight records, not the complete FMCSA census.
- Reported fleet, driver, mileage, cargo and safety fields are registration observations and may be stale or incomplete.
